The Bible explains some of the mysteries of Christian faith through its various accounts of the life and teaching of Christ. What is the Trinity?
In its simplest form, the Divine Trinity is a unity of three gods: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are separate Persons, one in essence and three distinct in essence. This simple truth can best be understood by understanding the Trinity in two major ways. The Father and Son are the three persons of the Trinity. The Father is “the Godhead, the Father Almighty, the God. Whose only begotten Son, without spot, died for our sins”. He is eternally eternal, the Godhead of three persons. The Son is eternally eternal, the Godhead of one individual person. The “eternal generation of the Son from the Father.” He is eternally created, the Godhead of the one person, a human being. The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is not eternal, and he comes in three distinct states of existence: the Spirit of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit “as the Father and the Son have given to Him,” and the Holy Spirit of the One God. The Holy Spirit is an “eternal, eternal, everlasting, invisible, and incorporeal being, and one with the Father and the Son and the Spirit” and “the Holy Spirit, also, and the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ.” This Trinity is the foundation of the Christian faith.
The Three Persons in the Trinity
The Trinity and Christianity are divided into two major schools: the traditional doctrine of the Trinity and the doctrine of the Trinity in its modern form. Modern Christian doctrine is not necessarily a change from the orthodox teaching of the Second or First Century Church, but it has developed as a result of that teaching. The Trinity was generally believed to be one person in the past. The Trinity was, before Christ, believed to be the father and the son, the same person in three persons.
