Is writing skill a rare talent? Do other art forms share the same basic ability? Is reading a human talent or a human skill? Should there be a set of common arts as a prerequisite to being a writer, poet or musician? And what is the best type of human talent – creative, intuitive, artistic, intuitive, logical?
In the end, however, I think the argument about art, writing and music is not about who will win a debate or who is more likely to win a fight, it’s about finding out the truth. As long as there are people who don’t want to accept the truth, we need to find out the truth for ourselves.
There is no right or wrong answer to questions of human creative talent. Our lives are full of choices; it’s up to us to learn the truth so we can make the best choice for ourselves. If the truth is as easy as deciding whether or not you want to be a writer, and if you don’t want to be a writer, then I’d just go back to playing guitar and listening to music – you’d have done your job by now.
Ride sharing services are great for short trips — for example, if you’re running late for a meeting the morning after dinner, or running to a nearby gym after a long day working. But for longer jaunts, Uber and Lyft — both owned separately but with each other providing rides — are becoming just as convenient and just as expensive.
A growing number of drivers, many of them veterans, are choosing to take jobs with their own companies rather than ride with either ride-sharing services or cabs. And so is the company Lyft, which has grown rapidly over the last year as part of a merger with transportation-software firm Uber.
A new study by the San Francisco-based AAA found that roughly a third of riders who use Lyft are earning between $20 and $40 hourly, depending on location. That means drivers like John and James, who said that they earn about $25 for three hours a day driving, are spending at least two hours each week behind the wheel.
Uber and Lyft said riders who use both services are paid a minimum $17 minimum wage when they drive. Drivers must work for at least 48 hours before getting paid for their work; an Uber driver can earn up to $20,000 a year and Lyft drivers will be paid an average of $7,000 a year, according to an Uber public policy executive.
