There’s little research on the skill-level of adults as artists, so there’s a lot left to learn, but some studies show that children and adults learn to draw from different sources: from drawing books, from watching art movies, and (to a much lesser extent) from art films.
How long would it take my child to make an impressive portrait?
Although most research on the topic of drawing skills is small, it seems like it might take children as young as 3 to 4 years to draw a good looking picture. And, while some parents feel that children can learn to draw by themselves, research shows that when art lessons are combined with lessons on self-expression (e.g., drawing and practicing the shapes you draw), children can learn to draw a variety of complex objects from just drawing. (A few studies indicate that 4-6 year olds may do well in class if there’s a variety of objects to draw.)
A few days ago, we reported that the new iPhone 6s Plus is the first iPhone with TrueDepth camera technology, which is capable of capturing depth information of objects. But we weren’t actually sure how deep the phone can see. Turns out, the new iPhone is capable of capturing depth information through images that are 30 to 40 times smaller than existing camera lenses.
While the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6s Plus have the same camera, Apple’s TrueDepth cameras capture images from around 10 centimeters closer than a regular smartphone camera. That’s down to the iPhone 6s Plus’ larger 3.5″ screen, which allows for more space for the new camera’s sensor. Apple has said that there isn’t much difference between the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7, which are smaller than the iPhone 6s. So although iPhones are smaller than cameras in their current generation, they still have the ability to capture depth information through smaller images.
While you’re not likely to notice the iPhone 6s Plus’ depth-sensing capabilities until you put it down to take a selfie, you will be able to see its more than 30-fold lower resolution image when you use its depth sensors. It will be fascinating to see how far this technology evolves, especially when Apple is also releasing its next-generation iPhone in its home country of China.
