Why do you want to become a life coach? – I Want A Life Coach

What are the types of stories you tell?

Life Coach: A “life coach” is a person who has lived or worked alongside me to have a personal understanding of my work and life and to share that in a format that appeals to the widest audience. They can help me with all aspects of life.

How do you use social media to help with your work?

Social media is my number one source of support in life coaching. I work with many, many people through social media and have over 4,000 followers on twitter and Facebook. This is the only forum where I can keep informed of what is happening in the world and share what I’m doing with fellow teachers around the world – helping and supporting people through my life coaching and teaching.

A lot of people take photos of themselves doing crazy stuff, including yoga, meditation, singing or talking to themselves on the bus. How do you like to capture these moments?

When I’m working with students I want it to be clear that I actually am a teacher. I don’t want people to think it is just another way to be seen or talked to by random strangers with something to teach. As a social psychologist, the more I can take the “other” and turn it into a useful resource for my students, and the more I can get their attention by creating and distributing good content they will get things out of the experience more effectively.

A personal highlight?

My oldest daughter had to take a specialised course at Primary 6 called Health & Nutrition. I was really interested in this topic, so I set up a Facebook Page for her and asked to share what I was learning there as well as providing some extra information about my work and ideas to help her.

What is one thing that a person can do to improve their health and wellbeing?

The simple rule is: eat less, drink less and exercise more. I always start people at the right place by showing them photos of healthy meals, exercises and places like Yoga studios. It’s the “why?” that matters – why are you doing these things? Is it working for this person? Are they better off, and better supported? The more you know, the more you can know. The key is making the right decisions for you for your health and wellbeing, to make your experience as productive and enjoyable as possible.
