It depends upon how much weight you’re losing. And the number of calories you’re losing. If you know you’re doing the same thing to your other body parts, and you’re trying to cut weight, but you’re not getting better grades or doing other things, then you might be better off talking with a health coach, or talking with a fitness professional, or talking with a coach on Instagram.

If you have a bad relationship with your fitness program, then I think people tend to gravitate to those, because you’re not doing it with any kind of real plan.

So what can the health professional do?

Well, one thing to do with your own experience is to not say anything is an option, because those aren’t options for everyone. Sometimes that’s all that we can do. There’s a very important balance between what you do and what you say. And so it’s the balance of your personal commitment, which is always going to be a big part of it, but also of what you say. What needs to happen in order for you to be confident in what you do. So maybe that’s one thing, but also the way in which you’re feeling, how you’re feeling, the stress you’re not feeling, the way you’re physically—all these things can help you.

So if your life coach doesn’t know how to go to the gym for 20 minutes three or four times a week, you might want to tell them to start over. Or maybe they can coach you over the phone. Or maybe you can call your doctor to set up a regular exercise regimen.

And that’s it?

That’s not going to do it, no. To change your habits is only one part of the solution. If you’re feeling this way, you really need to change the people who surround you. You don’t want to be just doing a good workout all the time.

There’s a huge difference in how much they’re doing it because you really need to have support and encouragement.

And so how do people get there, and who are the people who need support, and what are the different types of people in that?

I think it’s important to remember: We’re human beings. We’re not all in it together. We’re not all the same. There’s no “me” or “you.”
