The main reason they don’t use editing software is that they don’t know how to use it. So, they’ll get stuck in a rut and never get to do it properly! You might get to use it, but you wouldn’t be productive.
So, what should they do?
Take the experience in editing out of the equation, and use it as the basis for your next program. Start by learning how to use the mouse like any other operating system. When you’re done editing, make sure you do this in a clean, organized and well-maintained environment. I use Xubuntu, and this is what it looks like when I’m done, just like this video will be. So, there’s lots that’s already there.
This way, you’ve already got a tool in your arsenal that you’re not embarrassed to use. Once you’ve done that, you’ve got a whole arsenal of editing tools at your disposal.
In this video, you’ll learn:
What programs are out there that will edit in Xubuntu and other Linux desktops without plugging in a monitor
Using a tool called AUR (or Advanced Users Repository) as your development environment
Using the new ‘Open The Document Folder’ menu command to get your editing done in a way that makes sense without a computer
What the heck is a ‘file’ anyway, and how do we use it?
The ‘file’ is just a directory that stores file/folder data and some metadata for your project. For example, files are what Xubuntu and other Linux desktops use to store documents.
If, for convenience’s sake, we don’t store files inside the ‘project’ directory, we’re still using Xubuntu, and we’ll still get the editing feature that’s coming in Ubuntu MATE 14.04: the ‘Open The Document Folder’ menu command.
So, that’s how to use open the document folder command in a Linux desktop.
So how does it work?
You’ll be asked to create a folder if you haven’t already. Then, you’ll put the files inside the folder, and then, you’ll press enter when one of those files loads in Xubuntu. That’ll open up just like the file you’re about to edit.
OK, now, what does that mean? First, open your folder again, and you’ll then see the folder you’ve saved. Inside that
